6 Reasons You Should Run a Thanksgiving Race for the First Time
The thought of running a Thanksgiving race for the first time is daunting. Generally, you’re either a Turkey Trot family or you’re not. If you’ve been more pass the yams than run with the fam in the past, here are six reasons you should consider participating this year:
#1: The Foye Belle Foundation is a beneficiary of this year’s 30K10K in Rosemary Beach Florida — a non-profit Thanksgiving Day event that raises funds for local charities and promotes a spirit of healthy living and thankfulness.
Being named a beneficiary will allow Foye Belle to donate more Blue Bags to people in need. Specifically, the Foundation’s goal is to use the 30A10K race donation to further the Blue Bag Movement by creating partnerships with oncology centers across the Emerald Coast to ensure everyone going through the chemo process feels loved and supported. That’s the most important reason you should run.
#2: Guilt free pie is the best pie. An average person burns about 600-800 calories running a 10K. That’s 2.5 pieces of pumpkin pie. And no one is going to judge when you’re eating with a race medal around your neck.
#3: Endorphins make family time more fun. That runner’s high can last at least until your second helping of stuffing – which will make it more tolerable when Uncle Jerry goes back for thirds on politics.
#4: You can dress up. Look at how much fun these past participants had with their outfits.
#5: The 30K10K was ranked a top 5 race in the south by Southern Living Magazine. The course is flat and fun, and there is 10K, 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run options, so there’s something for all abilities, ages and fitness levels.
#6: The weather and course route will be gorgeous. Start your Thanksgiving Day with gratitude, thankfulness and sunshine. It is the Sunshine State after all.
Share this post with a friend. Think about what you could wear. People have been doing Turkey Trots since 1896, and more people run on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. 2019 is the year you join them. And if you need one last piece of convincing, here’s President Mark Berler talking about hand delivering a Blue Bag to a local Santa Rosa Beach resident (which participating in the 30A10K will help us do more of).
“We received a request for a Blue Bag from a local and, instead of shipping the Blue Bag, I decided to personally drive to their house and deliver the Blue Bag. I pulled in the driveway, rang the front doorbell and a gentleman answered the door. What happened next was a line of questioning trying to figure out what I wanted or what I was selling. After explaining to him I was the president of the Foye Belle Foundation and I was personally delivering a Blue Bag for his wife, his eyes teared up. His next words to me were “So, you came here on your own time for no other purpose than to give my wife a gift and ask for absolutely nothing in return?” I answered yes and then he hugged me and said thank you.
Not only was it the most memorable moment as president of the Foye Belle Foundation, it was likely the most memorable moment of my life.”
